A brief history of Resound hearing aids

Resound is a Danish manufacturer and part of the GN group of companies. It used to go by the name GN Resound. Historically, Resound has been one of the major innovators in hearing aids, launching the first open-fit hearing aids and the first "Made for iPhone" hearing aids.

Hearing Aid UK is independent of GN and every other manufacturer, so our audiologists can compare Resound fairly with other leading brands, such as Phonak, Oticon and Signia, before recommending anything.

Technology levels

Resound uses a number to show each model's technology level. The higher the number, the more automatic features the hearing aid has, and the higher the price. The letters after the number show the style, for example microRIE or RIE 61 (a small Receiver-in-Canal design that sits behind the ear), or ITC and CIC (custom styles that sit in the ear canal).

What sets Resound apart: A history of firsts

Resound calls its sound philosophy "Organic Hearing", which it says is designed to keep sound natural rather than heavily processed for people living with hearing loss. They were the first manufacturer to offer open-fit hearing aids, an advanced technical achievement at the time.

Resound states that it also created the WDRC (Wide Dynamic Range Compression) system, which brought improvements in sound processing, as well as the DFS (Digital Feedback Suppression) system, which helps reduce feedback.

The very first Made for iPhone hearing aids

Are Resound hearing aids Bluetooth compatible?  Yes. Most current ReSound models stream directly from compatible phones. Resound's connectivity work helped to change common perceptions of digital hearing aids globally.

They presented the very first 'Made For iPhone' hearing aids, devices that could stream content from an iPhone without the need for a separate Bluetooth accessory.

This innovation was widely celebrated within the industry, and it generated a buzz around hearing aids in the general technology industry for the very first time. Suddenly, hearing aids weren't as low-tech as some people thought they were.

Android compatibility depends on your phone and the Resound range. Newer ranges such as Savi use Bluetooth LE Audio, which Resound says works with compatible phones running Bluetooth 5.3 or later. Your audiologist will check your phone before your fitting.

Resound Hearing Aids Reviews

Reviewing the best Resound hearing aids and technology

Special technology features

Resound's stated focus is natural-sounding hearing. The aim is that hearing aid users can spend more time engaged in conversations and less time worrying about understanding everything that is said.

Resound describes its approach as "Smart Hearing", built around sound quality, connectivity, apps and design. In practice, this means most current Resound models stream directly from your phone and can be adjusted in the Resound Smart 3D app.

Binaural Directionality III

Resound states that Binaural Directionality III uses communication between your two hearing aids to help you tell which direction sounds are coming from, so listening feels more natural.

2.4 GHz technology

In 2010, Resound began placing 2.4 GHz technology into hearing aids, and since this first innovation, things have only improved. Resound offers direct audio streaming from compatible devices with the use of 2.4 GHz without the use of an intermediary streamer. This is a much more convenient solution for those on the go.

Wind and feedback management

Resound includes technology designed to reduce the effect of wind and feedback on your listening experience. This makes it easier to focus on what's happening in front of you, rather than on background noise.

Tinnitus support

Many people living with hearing loss also experience tinnitus. Many Resound models include a built-in sound generator with a choice of relief sounds, which some people find helpful for managing tinnitus. Your audiologist can set this up at your fitting.

Hearing aid apps

The Resound Smart 3D app allows you to adjust the volume control and even treble, middle, and bass settings on your Resound hearing aid. You can quickly and discreetly select specific environment settings, even saving a 'favourite' and geo-tagging a particular place to change the next time you're there in the same environment. Find out more about hearing aid apps.

Accessories

ReSound hearing aid accessories transmit direct audio from your own phone and other audio devices straight to your hearing aids. There are a few options to choose from, including TV and microphone accessories.

Ensure that you ask your audiologist to go through all the hearing aid accessories that are compatible with your phone and hearing aid model.

Your audiologist will professionally advise you on the right Resound hearing aid for you and your hearing, as well as give you ongoing hearing aid aftercare and support, such as:

New and notable Resound hearing aid models

Resound Sensia hearing aids - Latest

Resound Sensia is GN's newest premium hearing aid family, announced in August 2026 and available through Hearing Aid UK from October 2026. GN says Sensia is built on a new AI platform designed to pick out the voice you want to focus on in a noisy place, rather than simply the loudest sound.

GN states that its AcoustIQ system classifies your listening environment in real time, and that the top-level Intelligent All-Around feature is available on Sensia 9 in the microRIE style. GN also states that rechargeable Sensia microRIE and ITC/ITE models offer up to 24 hours of battery life.

In practical terms, Sensia may be most relevant if you spend a lot of time in restaurants, family gatherings or busy workplaces and want your hearing aids to handle those situations without you changing settings. As with any new launch, independent real-world evidence will take time to build. Your audiologist can talk you through how Sensia compares with Vivia for your hearing and lifestyle.

►Resound Sensia 7 hearing aids

►Resound Sensia 5 hearing aids

Resound Savi hearing aids - Current

Resound Savi is Resound's "essentials" range, launched in February 2025 alongside Vivia. It brings Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast broadcast audio to a lower price point than Resound's premium ranges. GN states that Savi receiver-in-canal models cover mild to profound hearing loss, depending on the receiver fitted, and in 2026 Resound added custom ITC and CIC styles to the range.

In practical terms, Savi may suit you if you want reliable everyday hearing, direct streaming and a choice of discreet styles without paying for premium-level automatic features. It is also worth a look if you are upgrading from NHS hearing aids and want Bluetooth for the first time.

Resound Vivia hearing aids - Current

The Resound Vivia hearing aids, officially launched in February 2025, represent an advanced leap in AI-powered hearing technology.

With its tiny microRIE design, long battery life, and strong connectivity (Bluetooth LE Audio & Auracast), it combines discretion, comfort, and future-ready technology for effortless everyday hearing.

Resound Enzo IA hearing aids - Current

The Resound Enzo IA range is tackling one of the most challenging areas in hearing care - supporting people with severe to profound hearing loss.  This isn't just another powerful hearing aid; it's what happens when you combine great amplification with genuinely clever technology, all into something surprisingly compact.

It's also nice to see a device that properly addresses the unique challenges that super power users face. For instance, this level of hearing loss requires serious power to access speech, but historically, that power has come with some compromises.

►Resound Enzo IA 7 hearing aids

►Resound Enzo IA 5 hearing aids

Resound Nexia hearing aids - Current

Launched in February 2024, Resound Nexia hearing aids include an innovative sound experience that caters to mild to profound hearing loss levels.  In fact, it is said to be their most advanced technology to date, featuring better support for your hearing and better connectivity

They also include their proven Organic Hearing approach and are ready for Bluetooth Auracast broadcast audio.  Overall, with Resound Nexia 9 hearing aids, you can enjoy a listening experience that sounds and feels natural, as well as benefit from premium connectivity.

►Resound Nexia 9 hearing aids

►Resound Nexia 7 hearing aids

 ►Resound Nexia 5 hearing aids

Resound hearing aids are particularly worth considering if:

"Because we're not tied to any manufacturer, I can be honest about where Resound fits. It's a strong option for people who want reliable streaming and a choice of discreet styles, and the new Sensia range is one I'm keen to see in everyday use.

But it's one good brand among several, and the best choice always comes down to your hearing test, your lifestyle and your budget."

says Paul Harrison, Audiology Expert & Founder, Hearing Aid UK

Summary
