Resound Omnia 5 Hearing Aids Overview
March 2023: Resound introduced their brand new Omnia BTEs and custom-made styles (including two rechargeable options).
An introduction to Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids
Resound Omnia hearing aids launched in September 2022 and the Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids come in an array of colours and provide Bluetooth streaming for both Android and iPhone and new hands-free calling on Apple devices. There are two traditional battery offerings and one rechargeable hearing aid model - giving you 30 hours of power on one single charge.
Listen better in noise with Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids
There is a clear focus on improving the wearer's listening experience in the most challenging background noises. Omnia also has some improvements two years after the Resound ONE hearing aids range. These are:
- They have improved their sound environment using their 360 All Around technology.
- They have made their processing faster for better selection and detection.
- They have narrowed their beamforming for more speech clarity in all listening environments.
- There is also hands-free calling for both iPhones and iPads available.
- Own voice perception gets an upgrade too.
What does all the above do for your hearing? It is said that Omnia, gives you automatic focus on what you want to tune into or listen to. This means you have full control of how you want to hear and not your hearing aids.
Previous Resound hearing aids did a pretty good job of making speech clear in noisy environments, but there could be times when loud sounds from behind or at the side would distort the soundscape. With Omnia, it's all about the background noise.
Comparing the Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids with the ONE 5 - What hasn't changed since Resound ONE?
The design wasn't reinvented for Omnia it is the same as the Resound ONE. The ONE shape was liked by many, so I'm sure that consumers will be glad there was no redesign for this new product. The second is that the Resound app has stayed the same, but they did add a new feature - Check My Fit. More on that later.
Finally, they continued with the M&RIE receiver.

The technology of Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids
As you can see Omnia is the same shape as the Resound ONE, but with some new beneficial features. Such as a better Ultra Focus, which is a feature that allows the wearer to switch listening focus to someone who is in front of them. There is also a new algorithm that helps to reduce the volume of your own voice.
But, the highlight of this product is the speech in noise improvements, which are said to be around 150% with their Organic Hearing concept. It might be a posh name, but what it actually means is that the hearing aids sound natural, feel natural, and connect to your world in a natural way.
When the brand researched how important hearing in background noise was to people, 80% said it was - so I guess they had to do something to tackle this common hurdle. Therefore, this was Omnia's main focus point. However, in reality, the 150% improvement they are referring to is when compared to their legacy products, such as LiNX 3D.
That being said, hearing aid wearers who have worn the latest Resound offerings enjoy the natural sound, so they must be doing something right!

The Check My Fit feature is a great tool to ensure that your hearing aids are in correctly - especially when you are a new hearing aid wearer. Like Widex Moment Sheer, which focuses on the "first-fit" experience element of hearing aids, this feature will hopefully eradicate uncertainty. How can this help you? Using this feature will help you to always benefit from the best hearing experience.

Resound Omnia 5 hearing aids are the budget or entry-price device of this range, therefore it has all the essential features you will need. Such as Bluetooth and clear sound. However, this performance level doesn't have the unique M&RIE microphone.
But, if you are someone who spends time in small groups or at home, this level will give you what you need on a budget.

What's included in our hearing aid prices?
If you are looking at this page then it is likely that an audiologist has suggested that you purchase this particular hearing aid, so is this the best model for you?
In general, any audiologist will always be recommending to you the model that best suits your needs. Here is a useful check list to make sure that is the case.
- Audiologist level of knowledge. The audiologist you have seen will hopefully have a wide knowledge of all available hearing aids, however some will only be familiar with a small number of brands and therefore may not really be in a position to know which model is the best for you. It is OK to challenge their recommendation and ask them to justify why this particular brand is the one for you.
- Do research. Read about the hearing aid that was recommended. Does it seem like it will suit your lifestyle? Does it have more or less features than you need?
- Be aware of sales targets. Many high street retailers have specific tie-ins to a particular manufacturer/brand. The hearing aid they have suggested may still be the correct one for you, but do your research so that you know why they might have recommended it.

The number of channels a hearing aid has is often a simplistic way an audiologist will use to explain why one hearing aid is better than another, but channels are complex and it is really not that straightforward.
Hearing aids amplify sounds of different frequencies by different amounts. Most people have lost more high frequencies than low and therefore need more amplification in the high frequencies. The range of sounds you hear are split into frequency bands or channels and the hearing aids are set to provide the right amount of hearing at each frequency level.
Less than six channels and this cannot be done with much accuracy, so six is the magic number. However, a six channel aid is typically very basic with few other features and is suitable only for hearing a single speaker in a quiet room. The number of channels is not what you should be looking at, it's more the rest of the technology that comes with them.
As a final note, different manufacturers have different approaches. One method is not necessarily better than any other. For example some manufacturers have as many as 64 channels in their top aids. Most tend to have between 17 and 20. One manufacturer has no channels at all.
