Resound Sensia Hearing Aids

Resound Sensia Hearing Aids

Coming soon to the UK

Last Hearing Aid UK Update:  15

Resound Sensia is the newest premium hearing aid range from Resound. A UK release date hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's expected to reach the UK market in due course, and we'll update this page the moment that's confirmed.

In the meantime, here's what's known about the range so far, and what it's likely to mean for anyone thinking about upgrading their hearing aids.

Hearing Aid UK supplies and professionally fits the Resound Sensia range throughout the UK, with appointments available at one of our 93+ clinics or through a free home visit with an HCPC-registered audiologist.

"What's interesting about Sensia isn't a new chip, it's Resound trying to close the gap between what good AI noise reduction can do and whether people actually remember to use it. That's a genuinely practical problem, and worth taking seriously once we've had proper hands-on time with it.

Until then, I'd encourage anyone comparing it to other premium hearing aids to wait for confirmed UK pricing and independent testing before deciding."

says Paul Harrison, Audiology Expert & Founder of Hearing Aid UK

Resound Sensia Hearing Aids

Sensia is built around a single idea

Rather than simply making everything louder, it tries to work out which voice you actually want to hear and bring that forward while everything else fades into the background.

Resound calls the overall system Intelligent All-Around, and at its fullest, it's designed to do this automatically, without you needing to fiddle with an app or a button every time you walk into a noisy room.

However, it's worth being upfront about one thing: Sensia isn't a completely new piece of hardware. It's built on the same underlying chip and processing engine as Resound's existing Vivia range.

What's changed is the software around it, specifically how well the hearing aid recognises a difficult listening situation and decides what to do about it on its own.

If you've found AI-powered noise reduction useful in principle but frustrating to switch on manually, that's precisely the gap Sensia is aimed at closing.

How Sensia tries to solve the "noisy room" problem

Three systems work together inside Intelligent All-Around

The first is environmental awareness, a classification system Resound calls AcoustIQ.

It's constantly reading the room, working out not just what kind of noise is present but which of the hearing aid's own features would actually help.

This matters more than it sounds: correctly spotting "speech in noise" is only useful if the hearing aid then switches on the right processing in response, rather than just labelling the situation correctly and doing nothing about it.

The second is directional focus. Sensia can coordinate four microphones across both hearing aids to build a forward-facing area of emphasis, on the basis that most people naturally turn to face whoever they want to hear.

So when Sensia detects a difficult conversation, it leans into whoever's in front of you, while still keeping some awareness of what's happening around you rather than shutting it out completely.

The third is the noise reduction itself: Resound's existing AI-based denoising technology, trained to tell useful speech apart from competing noise.

At the top of the range, this can switch on automatically inside the main listening programme, rather than living in a separate mode you have to remember to select.

It isn't used for every kind of noise, though: where the background sound is mostly non-speech, a fan or a vacuum cleaner, for example, the hearing aid is reported to fall back on a different, established noise-tracking system instead, on the basis that speech-trained AI isn't always the right tool for non-speech noise.

To summarise, the system:  It reads the room, it follows your attention, it reduces competing background noise.  Please note, this technology is only available in the Sensia 9 technology level, a detail easily missed.

Resound Sensia Hearing Aid Range UK

Resound Sensia Hearing Aids

Available styles, connectivity, and colours

Sensia styles

The range isn't limited to Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) hearing aids. Based on Resound's own professional materials, it's expected to include:

Whichever style ends up right for you, all of them are reported to be built with strong water and dust resistance, so they can be worn confidently through daily life, exercise and UK weather.

In-ear styles suit people who'd rather not have anything visible behind the ear at all, though your audiologist will confirm at your hearing test whether your ear shape and hearing level make an in-ear style suitable, since it isn't right for everyone.

Connectivity

Sensia is expected to support the newest generation of Bluetooth, called LE Audio, along with Auracast, a broadcast technology that lets compatible hearing aids pick up sound directly from equipped venues such as theatres, airports or public address systems, rather than relying on an older-style loop system.

Battery life is reported at up to 24 hours on a full charge, even with regular streaming. Wireless connectivity is expected across the range with one exception: the smallest Completely-in-Canal custom model, which is reported to be non-wireless.

Sensia is also expected to work with Resound's companion smartphone app, which typically allows wearers to adjust volume and sound preferences themselves, and in some cases lets your audiologist make minor remote adjustments without needing you back in for an appointment.

Colours

Resound's own product materials list a wide range of colour options, from subtle silvers and beiges through to bolder tones like navy and red, giving plenty of scope to match your hair, skin tone or simply a colour you like. Your audiologist can talk you through the full range and help you choose once the UK launch is confirmed.

Which one is right for me?

It's too early to give a definitive steer, since UK pricing and the full detail of each technology level aren't confirmed. As a general pattern though: if you regularly struggle in genuinely difficult, multi-speaker environments and would rather the hearing aid manage that for you automatically,

Premium on the microRIE style is likely to be worth a closer look. If your challenges are more occasional, Advanced offers the same underlying technology activated manually when you need it. Standard and Essential are likely to suit people prioritising ReSound's newer connectivity platform over the most advanced automatic noise processing. And if discretion matters more to you than automatic processing, the in-ear custom range is worth discussing
