Latest Hearing Aid Update: UK 10/06/2026
Unitron is one of the most technically capable hearing aid brands available through Hearing Aid UK, and one we recommend regularly across a wide range of hearing loss needs. Their Smile platform, launched in 2025, introduced the Integra OS, one of the most refined automatic sound classification systems currently available in a RIC (Receiver-in-Canal) hearing aid.
In January 2026, the Insera range added the first custom rechargeable in-ear option to the Smile platform, which significantly expands the choice available to people who want a truly discreet fit. All Unitron models available through us are fitted and fine-tuned by a qualified, HCPC-registered audiologist, either at one of our 93+ clinics or during a free home visit.
Unitron is owned by a Swiss company called Sonova, which also owns the hearing aid manufacturer Phonak. Perhaps more interestingly, Sonova also owns the majority shareholding of Boots Hearingcare in the UK.
If you've been recommended Phonak or Unitron hearing aids by Boots Hearingcare, then it's hardly surprising. Unitron is the lower-cost alternative to Phonak in the same way that Volkswagen is to Audi, which are part of the same company.
If you're struggling to understand the make and model names of Unitron hearing aids, then here's a simple guide to help:
Here are the Unitron hearing aid styles and technology. The higher the number, the higher the technology level and the higher the price.
Are Unitron hearing aids any good? Unitron is a worldwide company that works closely with health professionals and academics to provide the best hearing experience for its customers.
Established in 1964 and one of several digital hearing aid manufacturers within the Sonova Group umbrella company, the Canadian hearing aid devices can be found in over 70 countries around the globe.
Based in Canada's Silicon Valley in the Kitchener-Waterloo region of Ontario, Canada, the firm is rightly proud of its devices that combine a natural sound experience with an excellent understanding of speech in noise.
From the very beginning, Unitron has concentrated its research and development on features that benefit its users the most. In the 1980s, Unitron became a leader in Behind-the-ear (BTE) devices for individuals living with severe to profound hearing loss.
Unitron is still a market leader in the field of digital hearing aids and has received several product design prizes, including one for the smallest ever wireless receiver-in-canal hearing aid, the Moxi Now. This won a Red Dot design award in 2017.
The digital era has been marked by Unitron constantly evolving the landscape of listening solutions with programmable hearing aids and hearing aid fitting software. Unitron continues to enhance its technology to improve the fit of hearing aids for its customers.

The Unitron Moxi Smile hearing aids offer advanced features like an automatic sound adaptation for various environments, ensuring clear speech even in noise. Key technologies include AutoFocus 360 for directional listening, HyperFocus for noisy places, and Pinna Effect 2 for better sound localisation.
With up to 20 hours from an overnight charge, reliable Bluetooth for calls and streaming, and accessories like the PartnerMic for noisy conversations and the TV Connector for clearer television audio, the Smile range is built around daily life rather than just hearing tests. The Remote Plus app lets you fine-tune your settings in real time, and six colour options mean there is something to suit most preferences.
In January 2026, Unitron introduced two In-Ear hearing aids to the Smile platform: the Insera S-R, a rechargeable ITE model, and the Insera S NW O, a discreet CIC non-wireless model.
Unitron's Smile Insera S-R 9 represents a significant milestone as the company's first rechargeable custom In-the-Ear (ITE) hearing aid, bringing the comprehensive rechargeable technology from the Moxi range into a sleek, earbud-inspired design within the Smile platform.
The Insera S 10 NW O is a Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC) omni hearing aid with telecoil and a size 10 traditional battery, available in four colours: Beige, tan, cocoa, and brown. Although it includes the same technology and reliable performance as the ITE style, it is non-wireless, so there is no Bluetooth connectivity. If you value discretion over pairing with your devices and tapping into accessories, then the 10 NW O is worth considering.

Unitron's 2023 Vivante hearing aids, including the slim Moxi V-RS, offer their best sound yet through the adaptive Integra OS. Key improvements focus on challenging noise environments with features like HyperFocus and a car-specific program.
The Unitron Vivante Stride is a Behind-the-Ear (BTE) hearing aid built on the same Vivante platform as the Moxi, sharing the same Integra OS technology and four technology levels. It is the natural choice if your audiologist recommends a BTE style or if you have a more significant hearing loss.
The Stride V9-UP model extends coverage to severe to profound hearing loss, and the 360 Conversation in Car programme is a practical addition for anyone who regularly travels with others.
Available in multiple performance levels and models with rechargeable options and Bluetooth, Vivante emphasises a personalised experience via the Remote Plus app. Launched in 2023, the Vivante range remains available. If you are comparing Vivante with the newer Smile platform, your audiologist will help you work out which suits your needs better.
The Vivante range handles the shift between different listening situations automatically, so you can focus on the conversation rather than your hearing aids.

Launched in April 2021, the Unitron Blu range was built on the PRISM chip and Integra OS processing system. It has since been superseded by the Vivante and Smile platforms, both of which offer updated technology and improved Bluetooth. Blu models remain available, but newer options are worth considering if you are starting from scratch.

If your hearing needs change during the life of your hearing aid, you can upgrade to more sophisticated technology without having to buy a brand new device. With many Unitron hearing aids, you can upgrade your device software for a small fee and enjoy a higher level of technology.
This feature collects real-world data about your listening lifestyle through feedback from your smartphone and wireless communication with your hearing aids. You log about your hearing experience in distinct circumstances.
The next time you see your hearing professional, the information will be downloaded, and your hearing aids will be further adapted to better satisfy your individual requirements.
Unitron’s models of hearing aids are based on the type of hearing aid they are: Moxi - Receiver in Canal (RIC), Stride/Max – Behind-the-Ear (BTE), and Insera – In-the-ear (ITE).
The Moxi All, Moxi Fit R, Moxi Now, and original Insera range built on the Tempus platform are legacy models. They have been superseded by the Smile and Vivante platforms. If you are researching these older models, our audiologists can advise on the most current equivalent and whether it represents a meaningful upgrade for your hearing needs.

Unitron has a number of Bluetooth accessories that offer connectivity from your smartphone to your hearing aids. They have devices such as a remote microphone, remote control, TV streamer and much more.
Is there an app for Unitron hearing aids? The Remote Plus and uControl mobile phone apps give your local audiologist the data they need to make adjustments to your hearing aid settings, such as volume and programmes, so you always hear at your best.
Your audiologist will go through your hearing healthcare plan and how to use, manage, and maintain your hearing aids, including how to pair them to an iPhone or Android, how to adjust volume, and how to manage battery replacement where applicable.
Unitron's strength is in how well their technology handles the shift between different listening situations without requiring you to intervene. If you are considering Unitron, the most useful first step is a free hearing test with one of our HCPC-registered audiologists, who can advise on which platform and technology level genuinely matches your hearing and lifestyle.
"What I value about Unitron is that their technology gets on with the job. The automatic environment detection is reliable across the range, and the Smile platform in particular represents a genuine step forward in how hearing aids handle real-world listening. If someone comes to me wanting something that works consistently day to day without a lot of fiddling, Unitron is one of the first brands I consider."
