Unitron Blu 7 Hearing Aids - The technology

Unitron Blu 7 digital hearing aids include Sonova's powerful PRISM chip (Processing Real-Time Intelligent Sound Management) and new Integra OS signal processing system.  Both designed to provide advanced efficiency for your hearing experience - in all environments.

Unitron Blu 7 Hearing Aids - The adaptability

Because in real life you don't know what listening challenges you will be faced with at any given time - Unitron Blu helps adapt automatically to give you the best sound performance possible.  So you have more listening comfort and therefore confidence in those challenging listening atmospheres.  This hearing aid will support, alter throughout your day and keep up with your lifestyle and hearing loss needs.

Unitron Blu 7 Hearing Aids - Bluetooth

This hearing aid range is Made for Any Phone, which means it's compatible with both Apple and Android devices - as well as all Unitron's Bluetooth accessories.  This model allows you to connect and interact with two simultaneous devices and eight to be paired at the same time.

The new tap control feature gives you more freedom and control by accessing virtual assistant, take hands-free calls and pause / play audio with just a tap of your ear*

Unitron Blu Hearing Aid Range

Launched in April 2021, the Unitron Blu hearing aid range offers modern-day consumers the next-generation sound performance.   A performance that not only adapts to your specific needs but personalises them by providing the flexibility consumers now crave from their hearing experience.  Allowing you to fully enjoy life with hearing aids that keep up, as Blu reacts to specific real-world circumstances on demand.

Unitron Blu Hearing Aids - Powerful processing
The Unitron Blu digital hearing aid range is powered by the Sonova  PRISM (Processing Real-Time Intelligent Sound Management) chip and the new Integra OS signal processing system. Designed to deliver wearers an optimised listening experience that is tailor-made - whatever hearing environment they are in.

The PRISM chip offers double the memory of Unitron's last chip and two times more memory, which powers the personalisation features of this aid and gives you the professional fine-tuning your hearing deserves.

Unitron Blu Hearing Aids - A new design for the Moxi family
You can see from the above image that this hearing aid range showcases Unitron's redesign for 2021's Moxi family - including two lithium-ion rechargeable models.  A new streamlined shape that offers additional wearer comfort along with a more user-friendly experience, in regards to programming, device maintenance and remote care.

For instance, they have introduced handy in-app reminders and 'how to' memos to prompt and educate wearers about Blu's new feature set and technology.

In reality, this should build wearers confidence when wearing this hearing aid and also go in some way to create a seamless and best first-time hearing experience.  Quite a useful tool when it is common for most people to struggle to adapt to new hearing aids and initially find it hard to manage the technology - especially if they are new users.

Breaking Down Unitron's Moxi Blu Hearing Aid Styles:
-  Moxi B R: Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, push-button, Bluetooth connectivity.
-  Moxi B R T: Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, push-button, Bluetooth connectivity, Telecoil.
-  Moxi B 312: 312 battery, push-button, Bluetooth connectivity.

Unitron Blu Hearing Aids - The art of adapting
The reality is that those with hearing loss don't know what hearing challenges they will be faced with from one moment to the next.  Unitron made it their priority to address this stumbling block and created a hearing solution that provides a consistently clear sound experience that is reliable throughout the day.

One that adapts to your soundscape even in the complex and unprecedented hearing moments life throws at you - and keeps up!

For that extra boost in said challenging hearing environments, you can use Unitron's Remote Plus app and enhance the clarity and comfort of your hearing with automatic programming.  For instance, the Blu hearing aid range has up to six pre-set programs to select that can also be additionally adjusted.

Giving you the flexibility to boost your speech, noise reduction and focus on what you want to focus on.  Blu makes all these audiological tweaks as well as keeping all your specific hearing needs at the forefront.  So, what does this mean for you?  The 'In-the-moment' personalisation should mean that you can hear how you want, when you want.

What smartphones are compatible with Unitron's Remote Plus App?
The app works with Apple smartphones with iOS 10.2 or newer and Android smartphones with version 6 or newer.

What other benefits can wearers get using the Unitron Remote Plus App?
Blu hearing aids offer wearers additional support, options and control.  With the Remote Plus app you can also:

Unitron Blu Hearing Aids - Compatability to suit all
This Made for Any Phone digital hearing aid caters for all your connectivity needs seamlessly and can be paired to all your at-home Bluetooth devices and accessories directly with your hearing aids. The new tap control feature allows you to conveniently connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and eight to be paired at the same time - all with just a tap of your ear.

What accessories are compatible with Unitron Blu hearing aids?
Hearing aid accessories can make your hearing experience even better and Unitron has designed ones to solve real problems for wearers, but are still simple to use.  Below are the three main accessories that are compatible with Unitron Blu hearing aids - including a brief description of what they do.

Unitron Blu hearing aids are available to trial with Unitron FLEX-TRIAL. This means that you can benefit from a real-world hearing assessment before you invest in your hearing aids. With the trial, you can experience natural sound that is bespoke to your hearing needs before committing. Speak to one of our audiologists for more information.

Unitron Blu hearing aids are available to upgrade with Unitron's FLEX-UPGRADE - making your hearing aids future-proof.  For instance, if your hearing needs alter in the future you can just go to your audiologist and they will program your hearing aids with an upgrade.  So you get a higher specification that meets your new hearing needs better without buying new hearing aids.

Unitron Coach Feature - Professional care beyond the clinic
Unitron's Coach feature is one of the highlights of Unitron hearing aids, as it helps in improving the hearing experience for the wearer.  It is a counselling feature within the Remote Plus app designed to give you the freedom to take control of your hearing health.  It aids in better understanding your hearing device with notifications so you learn how to get the most out of them.  For instance, when to change your batteries or when to charge them.

Coach uses videos, graphics and content to better relate to the client and offers simple ways to improve the wearer's experience with Unitron Blu hearing aids. It is a cloud-based system that captures, records and studies information and insights about your hearing and acoustic lifestyle.

This means it will record how well your devices are performing, which is really important. Using this data, your audiologist - if needed - can make audiological tweaks to better personalise your hearing to fit with your own unique lifestyle.

Focused speech
AutoFocus 360 uses four microphones to figure out where speech is coming from and beneficially alters the amplification in each ear.  It also uses dynamic noise reduction to decrease background noise that is distracting.  This makes it easier to hold and engage in conversations in crowded and noisy environments.

Boost the soft
Each and every voice is important in your conversation.  Soft Speech Lift enhances the subtle nuances in speech.  So the quiet voices are clear and comfortable to hear.  Blu's Spatial Awareness compensates for cues that are naturally lost in hearing aids, so you will always gain from keeping the subtle cues in your listening experience.

Is this the best model for me?

If you are looking at this page then it is likely that an audiologist has suggested that you purchase this particular hearing aid, so is this the best model for you?

In general, any audiologist will always be recommending to you the model that best suits your needs. Here is a useful check list to make sure that is the case.

  • Audiologist level of knowledge. The audiologist you have seen will hopefully have a wide knowledge of all available hearing aids, however some will only be familiar with a small number of brands and therefore may not really be in a position to know which model is the best for you. It is OK to challenge their recommendation and ask them to justify why this particular brand is the one for you.
  • Do research. Read about the hearing aid that was recommended. Does it seem like it will suit your lifestyle? Does it have more or less features than you need?
  • Be aware of sales targets. Many high street retailers have specific tie-ins to a particular manufacturer/brand. The hearing aid they have suggested may still be the correct one for you, but do your research so that you know why they might have recommended it.

If in doubt, feel free to give us a call. That's what we're here for.

Do I need one hearing aid or two?

If you have a significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:

Localisation. The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the miniscule time delays as well as the difference in loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source. Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.

Less amplification required. A phenomena known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than than if you wore only one hearing aid.

Head shadow effect. High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore if someone is talking on your unaided side you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.

Noise reduction. The brain has it’s own built in noise reduction which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering it out.

Sound quality. We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.

What are the benefits of rechargeable hearing aids?

For most people, the main benefit of a rechargeable hearing aid is simple convenience. We are used to plugging in our phones and other devices overnight for them to charge up.

For anybody with poor dexterity or issues with their fingers, having a rechargeable aid makes a huge difference as normal hearing aid batteries are quite small and some people find them fiddly to change.

One downside is that if you forget to charge your hearing aid, then it is a problem that can't be instantly fixed. For most a 30 minute charge will get you at least two or three hours of hearing, but if you are the type of person who is likely to forget to plug them in regularly then you're probably better off with standard batteries.

Rechargeable aids are also a little bit bigger and are only available in behind the ear models.

Finally, just like with a mobile phone, the amount of charge you get on day one is not going to be the same as you get a few years down the line. Be sure to ask what the policy is with the manufacturer warranty when it comes to replacing the battery.

Are behind the ear aids better than in the ear aids?

For most people, the answer is yes. But it's never that simple.

The majority of hearing problems affect the high frequencies a lot more than the low ones. Therefore open fitting hearing aids sound a lot more natural and ones that block your ears up can make your own voice sound like you are talking with your head in a bucket. Therefore in-ear aids tend to be less natural.

However the true answer is we can't tell until we have had a look in your ears to assess the size of your ear canal, and until we have tested your hearing to see which frequencies are being affected.

People with wider ear canals tend to have more flexibility, also there are open fitting modular CIC hearing aids now that do not block your ears.

There is also the age old rule to consider, that a hearing aid will not help you if it's sat in the drawer gathering dust. If the only hearing aid you would be happy wearing is one that people can't see, then that's what you should get.

Most people can adapt to any type of hearing aid, as long as they know what to expect. Have an honest conversation with your audiologist as to what your needs are.

What are channels, and how many do I need?

Generally speaking, six or more. Unless it's none at all.

The number of channels a hearing aid has is often a simplistic way an audiologist will use to explain why one hearing aid is better than another, but channels are complex and it is really not that straightforward.

Hearing aids amplify sounds of different frequencies by different amounts. Most people have lost more high frequencies than low and therefore need more amplification in the high frequencies. The range of sounds you hear are split into frequency bands or channels and the hearing aids are set to provide the right amount of hearing at each frequency level.

Less than six channels and this cannot be done with much accuracy, so six is the magic number. However, a six channel aid is typically very basic with few other features and is suitable only for hearing a single speaker in a quiet room. The number of channels is not what you should be looking at, it's more the rest of the technology that comes with them.

As a final note, different manufacturers have different approaches. One method is not necessarily better than any other. For example some manufacturers have as many as 64 channels in their top aids. Most tend to have between 17 and 20. One manufacturer has no channels at all.
