What at-home services do hearing aid dispensers provide in the UK? Hearing aid dispensing, believe it or not, started as a bespoke home service before transitioning to practice. Making hearing tests, fittings and check-ups accessible to everyone, anywhere.
With the hectic speed at which life moves it is often near impossible to make time to book an appointment never mind attending one. This is why more and more patients are preferring the convenience and discretion that home visits bring.
Before Boots Hearingcare was founded they were known as David Ormerod Hearing Centres. With around 400 stores, nationwide, this large high street chain is a popular place for consumers to purchase hearing aids.
Before the rebranding and trading as David Ormerod Hearing Centres, Boots did initially provide their patients with home visits. Along with the growing industry and their increased marketing presence – they have had to reduce their level of service to reflect this and now just offer in-store appointments.
If you require a hearing test and are unable to attend the store, Specsavers will arrange an appointment with you at home and fit your new hearing aids at your convenience. However, we are unsure as to whether this service is available for other patient needs like maintenance or adjustments needed.
What we do know is that these visits are not free of charge. A complete hearing test service at your home will cost around £100. We believe this is largely due to this brand supplying NHS hearing services within the community – accredited by over 50% of the NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups in the UK. Therefore, to warrant such a service Specsavers have had to make it chargeable.
With numerous branches across England and Wales, Bloom and Hidden Hearing are hearing specialists that offer a free at-home hearing care service to their patients. Amplifon, the largest national retailer, offers a home visit from £30 and Scrivens currently doesn't provide such a service. It is important to check if there is a fee with the audiologist before booking your appointment to avoid any unwanted surprises.
Here, at Hearing Aid UK, we understand the benefits and importance of home visits. The convenience aspect appeals to most of our patients, as they prefer the bespoke service and the reassurance that they are receiving the most realistic programming in their commonplace environment.
The home experience offered by our audiologists enables you to use your hearing aids with the people and the appliances you interact with daily. Our patients also like the practicalities of receiving an instant connection to their devices and the trust that comes with our professional and personal relationship.
