An introduction to the Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids
Launched at the beginning of September 2022, Moment Sheer hearing aids are Widex's new flagship product and, therefore, supersede the original Moment hearing aid range. However, not fully, as this new range is currently only available in an RIC hearing aid model (the sRIC R D) - unlike Moment, which is available in BTE and ITE device options too. We predict this will change towards the end of the year.
The Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids are at the advanced performance level in the range. This means it has 6 channels and doesn't offer all of the features that assist in background noise.
Sound is the new focus with Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids
This new range of hearing aids is focusing less on additional features like transcription or fitness tracking, but more on sound quality and how natural it is. The Widex sound continues to evolve and we find that patients who start wearing Widex hearing aids generally stay loyal to the brand.
The focus of this hearing aid range is to further enhance the hearing aid wearer's lifestyle and even well-being with advanced hardware and software technologies. Widex Moment Sheer is set to deliver a more supported hearing solution that will engage with the wearer and improve well-being.
There are many complexities to hearing loss and no two ears are the same, but the desire from the patient and the focus is still the same as it always has been - to deliver the best natural sound. Because the need for natural sound is universal.
Another important factor Widex had in mind when designing Moment Sheer, was to achieve a better "first-fit" experience. This initial fit by an audiologist is the answer between a good start to a hearing journey and better hearing or not. The technology inside Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids
In a nutshell, Widex processes sound 5 times faster than their older hearing aid models, which ultimately leads to less distortion. Instead of storing anecdotal feedback from hearing aid wearers, Moment Sheer gathers app feedback in real-time from wearers around the globe to enhance their algorithms.
Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids are often compared to hearing aids of the same ilk, like Oticon More and Resound Omnia - but does anything set this range apart? As we have stated before, it's all about the sound with Widex. Every hearing aid down the line they have created has generally had this focus and goal.
Widex Moment Sheer is a rechargeable aid with Bluetooth streaming capabilities. Arguably, Widex hearing aids don't have advanced rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth connectivity at this point as other brands do. If you are looking for smart technology and battery power, then consider other hearing aid brands to tick these boxes.
However, these hearing aids are a serious consideration if personalised, clear, fast, and natural sound is important to you. If you are looking for a budget option and you have easily supported hearing loss needs, this level could be right for you.
What features have been improved on with Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids?
As the Sheer technology is the same platform as the original Moment in many ways, I thought it might be better to go through what is better with the new product. For instance, it is said that with the Widex Moment Sheer, the sound is even better. With the additional parameters in their MySound technology, you now have more control of how you hear wherever you are, as the AI personalisation is more versatile.
There are added fractal sounds within the SoundRelax feature - designed to give you focus and a sense of relaxation. There are also new acoustically improved ear tips, fitting recommendations and a new elegant design (which will replace the popular mRIC R D model).
What features do you lose when you compare the Widex Moment Sheer 110 hearing aids with the 440? There is no:
Smartwind Manager: Your hearing aids can automatically recognise wind noise and adjust immediately.
High Frequency Boost: Your hearing aids have access to extended or extra gain.
Speech Enhancer: Your hearing aids work out the best gain for speech understanding in your environment with your hearing loss needs in mind.
TruSound Softner: Your hearing aids will be able to manage certain hearing situations and changes in your atmosphere and adjust your sound accordingly so your hearing experience is seamless.
SoundSense Adapt: Your hearing aids use machine learning to assist you with a more personalised hearing experience. There is also no SoundSense Learn app.

If you are looking at this page then it is likely that an audiologist has suggested that you purchase this particular hearing aid, so is this the best model for you?
In general, any audiologist will always be recommending to you the model that best suits your needs. Here is a useful check list to make sure that is the case.
- Audiologist level of knowledge. The audiologist you have seen will hopefully have a wide knowledge of all available hearing aids, however some will only be familiar with a small number of brands and therefore may not really be in a position to know which model is the best for you. It is OK to challenge their recommendation and ask them to justify why this particular brand is the one for you.
- Do research. Read about the hearing aid that was recommended. Does it seem like it will suit your lifestyle? Does it have more or less features than you need?
- Be aware of sales targets. Many high street retailers have specific tie-ins to a particular manufacturer/brand. The hearing aid they have suggested may still be the correct one for you, but do your research so that you know why they might have recommended it.

If you have a significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:
Localisation. The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the miniscule time delays as well as the difference in loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source. Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.
Less amplification required. A phenomena known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than than if you wore only one hearing aid.
Head shadow effect. High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore if someone is talking on your unaided side you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.
Noise reduction. The brain has it’s own built in noise reduction which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering it out.
Sound quality. We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.
