Overview of Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 hearing aids

Launched in October 2026, the Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 hearing aids are premium technology in Starkey’s newest flagship range, Omega AI Plus. It’s the only level with every feature Starkey offers, including the option to keep Edge Mode switched on all the time.

Hearing Aid UK supplies and professionally fits the Omega AI Plus 24 throughout the UK. Every pair is fitted and fine-tuned in person by an HCPC-registered audiologist, at a local hearing clinic or during a free home visit. The 24 is designed for people who spend a lot of time in busy, noisy places and want their hearing aids to work as hard as possible there.

Quick highlights of the Omega AI Plus 24:

  • Premium technology level
  • New G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor
  • Always-on Edge Mode option
  • DNN 360 directionality and spatial awareness (requires a style with directional microphones)
  • Gen AI Smart Assistant, translation and transcription
  • Hearing Aids Left Behind alerts
  • Up to 51 hours of battery life (RIC RT, according to Starkey)
  • Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast on wireless models
  • Available in RIC and custom in-ear styles, including the IIC
  • Compatible accessories: StarLink Edge TV Streamer, Edge Remote Microphone, Edge Table Microphone, Edge LE Adapter, Remote Control 2.0 and the My Starkey app

DNN Dual Compressor

Hearing aids use compression to make soft sounds audible without loud sounds becoming uncomfortable. Fast compression lifts quick speech details such as “s” and “t” sounds, but can make some sounds seem to rise and fall. Slow compression sounds steadier but can miss those details.

Starkey states that the DNN Dual Compressor uses speech detection to blend the two as you listen. In Starkey's own study of 14 experienced hearing aid wearers, all participants reported fewer sound artefacts with the new system, and most preferred its sound quality, although the study didn’t find a significant difference in how much soft speech people understood. So the honest way to describe it is more comfortable, natural sound over a long day, rather than a jump in understanding.

Edge Mode that can stay on

Edge Mode gives your hearing aids an extra boost in difficult places, such as a busy restaurant or a crowded family party. On other levels, you switch it on in the app when you need it.

On the 24, Starkey has added the option to keep it running all the time in your main programme, so you don’t have to remember to turn it on. Starkey’s own research suggests Edge Mode reduces listening effort compared with the standard programme.

The strongest noise reduction in the range

The 24 has the most processing channels and the strongest noise reduction settings of the three levels. It also includes live translation, transcription, and the new Hearing Aids Left Behind alert, which Starkey describes as an industry first. These are useful extras, but they’re not a reason to choose the 24 on their own. Sound performance in noise is what you’re paying for.

Battery, durability and connectivity

According to Starkey, the RIC RT gives up to 51 hours on a charge, and the mRIC R and rechargeable custom models give up to around 42 hours. Rechargeable models are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. Wireless models stream calls, music and TV over Bluetooth LE Audio and support Auracast.

The My Starkey app

Wireless Omega AI Plus 24 models connect to the free My Starkey app on compatible iPhone and Android phones. The 24 models get the full set of app features:

  • Volume and programme controls
  • Edge Mode, including the always-on option
  • Gen AI Smart Assistant for voice-controlled help and adjustments
  • TeleHear AI, which suggests sound adjustments when you describe a problem in your own words
  • Live translation and transcription
  • Hearing Aids Left Behind alerts and help finding misplaced hearing aids
  • Health and activity tracking, fall alerts and balance assessment
  • Auracast Assistant, to help you find and join available broadcasts
  • Reminders and Self Check, which checks that your hearing aids are working properly

The app is there to make daily life easier, not to replace your audiologist. Your fitting and any significant adjustments are always done in person, at a clinic or at home, as part of your aftercare for life.

Models available

The Omega AI Plus 24 comes in more styles than any other level in the range. Your audiologist will recommend a style after your hearing test, based on your hearing, the shape of your ear and what matters to you.

Receiver-in-Canal (sits behind the ear, with a small speaker in the ear canal)

  • mRIC R: The smallest rechargeable RIC, for discretion. Up to around 42 hours per charge.
  • RIC RT: Rechargeable, with the longest battery life in the range (up to 51 hours), and a telecoil for hearing loops.
  • RIC 312: Uses size 312 disposable batteries, for people who’d rather not rely on a charger.
  • Colours available: Silver, white, beige, caramel, graphite grey, chestnut, and tech black.

Custom in-ear (made from an impression of your ear)

  • ITE R: The largest rechargeable custom style, with easy-to-use controls and DNN 360.
  • ITC R: A smaller rechargeable custom style, sitting in the ear canal, with DNN 360.
  • CIC: Sits deeper in the ear canal, wireless, with disposable batteries.
  • CIC R NW: A rechargeable, non-wireless completely-in-canal model.
  • CIC NW: A non-wireless completely-in-canal model with disposable batteries.
  • IIC NW: The smallest option, designed to be virtually invisible. Available at the 24 only.
  • Non-wireless (NW) models don’t stream audio or connect to the My Starkey app. Instead, they include Automatic Edge Mode, and Starkey’s new ultra-high-frequency tone system means even the IIC can access Edge Mode, with no visible button needed. Your audiologist can tell you which models these are.
  • Faceplate colours available: Black, dark brown, chestnut, medium brown, light brown, and pink.
  • Shell colours available: Clear, pink, light brown, medium brown, dark brown, black, and blue/red (IIC model is only available in a black shell).

Who should consider the Omega AI Plus 24?

The 24 suits people who regularly spend time in restaurants, pubs, family gatherings or meetings, and who have found that other hearing aids work well at home but struggle when it gets busy.

It’s also the level to choose if you want a discreet custom hearing aid with every feature, as the smallest style, the IIC, is only offered at the 24. If most of your day is spent in quieter settings, the Omega AI Plus 20 may suit you just as well for less.

Key takeaways

  • Premium level: The only Omega AI Plus level with every feature Starkey offers
  • DNN Dual Compressor: Designed for more comfortable, natural sound, according to Starkey’s own study
  • Always-on Edge Mode: Extra help in noise without having to switch it on
  • Strongest noise reduction settings in the range: More room for your audiologist to fine-tune for noisy places
  • Most style choices: Including the smallest custom models

"We’d recommend the 24 to people whose problem is noise. That might mean a busy dining room, a grandchild’s birthday party or a meeting where everyone talks at once.

Having Edge Mode always on is genuinely useful for those people, because the moments you need it most are often the moments you forget to switch it on. If your days are mostly quiet, though, we’d rather you spent the difference on something else.”

Omega AI Plus 24 FAQs

What does the Omega AI Plus 24 have that the 20 doesn’t? The Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 adds always-on Edge Mode and stronger noise reduction settings than the Omega AI Plus 20. Your audiologist can confirm which other features, such as the DNN Dual Compressor and Hearing Aids Left Behind alerts, are included at each level.

Is the Omega AI Plus 24 worth it over the original Omega AI 24? The Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 mainly improves sound comfort, adds an always-on Edge Mode option and brings DNN 360 to rechargeable custom styles, so people who are happy with their Omega AI 24 have no pressing reason to upgrade.

Can I have the Omega AI Plus 24 fitted at home? Yes, Hearing Aid UK’s HCPC-registered audiologists can fit the Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 during a free home visit anywhere in the UK, or at one of 93+ clinics.

Can I try the Omega AI Plus 24 before committing? Every Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 from Hearing Aid UK comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it in your own daily life before deciding.

Do Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 hearing aids work with iPhone and Android? Wireless Starkey Omega AI Plus 24 models stream calls, music and TV from most compatible iPhone and Android devices using Bluetooth LE Audio, and your Hearing Aid UK audiologist will check your specific phone at your appointment.

FAQs

What is the best hearing aid model for me?

In general, any audiologist will always recommend to you the hearing aid model that best suits your needs. Here is a useful checklist to make sure that is the case.

  • Audiologist's level of knowledge: The audiologist you have seen will hopefully have a wide knowledge of all available hearing aids; however, some will only be familiar with a small number of brands and, therefore, may not really be in a position to know which model is the best for you. It is OK to challenge their recommendation and ask them to justify why this particular brand is the one for you.
  • Do research: Read about the hearing aid that was recommended. Does it seem like it will suit your lifestyle? Does it have more or fewer features than you need?
  • Be aware of sales targets: Many high street retailers have specific tie-ins to a particular manufacturer/brand. The hearing aid they have suggested may still be the correct one for you, but do your research so that you know why they might have recommended it.  You can read our best hearing aids of this year here
Do I need one hearing aid or two?

If you have significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:

Localisation: The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the minuscule time delays as well as the difference in the loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source.

Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.

Less amplification is required: A phenomenon known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than if you wore only one hearing aid.

Head shadow effect: High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore, if someone is talking on your unaided side, you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.

Noise reduction: The brain has its own built-in noise reduction, which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering them out.

Sound quality: We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.

What are the benefits of rechargeable hearing aids?

For most people, the main benefit of a rechargeable hearing aid is simple convenience. We are used to plugging in our phones and other devices overnight for them to charge up.  Here are some other pros and cons:

For anybody with poor dexterity or issues with their fingers, having a rechargeable aid makes a huge difference, as normal hearing aid batteries are quite small and some people find them fiddly to change.

One downside is that if you forget to charge your hearing aid, then it is a problem that can't be instantly fixed. For most, a 30-minute charge will get you at least two or three hours of hearing, but if you are the type of person who is likely to forget to plug them in regularly, then you're probably better off with standard batteries.

Rechargeable aids are also a little bit bigger and are only available in Behind-the-Ear models.

Finally, just like with a mobile phone, the amount of charge you get on day one is not going to be the same as you get a few years down the line. Be sure to ask what the policy is with the manufacturer's warranty when it comes to replacing the battery.

Are Behind-the-Ear hearing aids better than In-the-Ear hearing aids?

For most people, the answer is yes. But it's never that simple.

The majority of hearing problems affect the high frequencies a lot more than the low ones. Therefore, open fitting hearing aids sound a lot more natural and ones that block your ears up can make your own voice sound like you are talking with your head in a bucket. Therefore, in-ear aids tend to be less natural.

However, the true answer is we can't tell until we have had a look in your ears to assess the size of your ear canal, and until we have tested your hearing to see which frequencies are being affected.

People with wider ear canals tend to have more flexibility, also there are open fitting modular CIC hearing aids now that do not block your ears.

There is also the age-old rule to consider, that a hearing aid will not help you if it's sat in the drawer gathering dust. If the only hearing aid you would be happy wearing is one that people can't see, then that's what you should get.

Most people can adapt to any type of hearing aid, as long as they know what to expect. Have an honest conversation with your audiologist as to what your needs are.

What are channels, and how many do I need?

Generally speaking, six or more. Unless it's none at all.  The number of channels a hearing aid has is often a simplistic way an audiologist will use to explain why one hearing aid is better than another, but channels are complex, and it is really not that straightforward.  Here are some reasons why:

Hearing aids amplify sounds of different frequencies by different amounts. Most people have lost more high frequencies than low, and therefore need more amplification in the high frequencies. The range of sounds you hear is split into frequency bands or channels, and the hearing aids are set to provide the right amount of hearing at each frequency level.

Less than six channels, and this cannot be done with much accuracy, so six is the magic number. However, a six-channel aid is typically very basic with few other features and is suitable only for hearing a single speaker in a quiet room. The number of channels is not what you should be looking at; it's more the rest of the technology that comes with them.

As a final note, different manufacturers have different approaches. One method is not necessarily better than any other. For example, some manufacturers have as many as 64 channels in their top aids. Most tend to have between 17 and 20. One manufacturer has no channels at all.

What's covered in a manufacturer's warranty?

Manufacturer's warranties typically last between 2-5 years, depending on the brand and model, and cover defects in materials and workmanship. This includes repairs for component failures, electronic malfunctions, and manufacturing defects, but excludes damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear. Most manufacturers also include loss and damage insurance for the first year.

We handle all warranty claims on your behalf, liaising with manufacturers and ensuring you get replacement devices quickly when needed. This comprehensive warranty coverage, combined with our lifetime aftercare, gives you complete peace of mind.  Find out more about our warranty cover here

How much does the hearing test cost?

Our hearing tests are completely free, whether at our clinics or in your home. Unlike other providers who charge £30-£100 for home visits, we believe hearing healthcare should be accessible without financial barriers. Our comprehensive assessments include examination by an HCPC-registered audiologist, audiogram results, and personalised recommendations.

All testing, future adjustments, and ongoing support are included at no extra cost. While NHS tests are also free, typical 6-week waiting periods often lead people to seek immediate private testing. We provide prompt, professional assessments that fit your schedule and budget.

Do you offer home visits, and are they included in the price?

Yes, we offer completely free home visits throughout the UK, and this service is included in our prices with no additional charges. Home visits are particularly valuable for people with mobility issues, busy schedules, or those who simply prefer the comfort and convenience of their own environment.

Our audiologists can conduct full hearing tests, fit hearing aids, and provide ongoing support in your home.  This service sets us apart from many providers who either don't offer home visits or charge extra for them.

Why are your hearing aids cheaper than what I'd pay on the high street?

We can offer prices up to 40% lower than high street retailers because of our business model. As a network of 200+ independent audiologists, we don't have the massive overheads of large retail chains - no expensive high street premises, no sales targets pushing audiologists to sell the most expensive options, and no costly marketing campaigns.

However, we maintain the same buying power as the big chains because we purchase on behalf of our entire nationwide network. This means you get access to the same premium hearing aids with professional service, but at genuinely competitive prices.

How long do I have to try the hearing aids before committing to keep them?

We offer a comprehensive 60-day money-back guarantee, which gives you twice the industry standard time to properly assess whether your hearing aids are right for you. This extended period recognises that adjusting to hearing aids takes time, and your brain needs several weeks to adapt to the amplified sounds.

Unlike many providers who offer just 30 days, we believe 60 days gives you the confidence to test your hearing aids in all the situations that matter to you - from quiet conversations at home to busy restaurants and outdoor activities.
