Most people who come to us with hearing challenges are not spending their days in the noisiest possible environments. They are at home, in the car, in a moderately busy cafe, at a family gathering, or occasionally in a restaurant that turns out to be louder than expected. The Starkey G Series AI 20 hearing aids are built for that reality.
It is the tier that balances genuine AI-assisted performance with a price point that does not assume you need everything the 24 level provides. The Friendly AI directionality is strong and consistent here. The speech-in-noise performance handles the environments most people actually move through. The Bluetooth works the same as at the top tier.
What the 20 level carries less of than the 24 is the very finest processing capacity in the most extreme noise conditions. For the majority of people, those conditions rarely arise. If they form a regular part of your daily life, the 24 level is worth the conversation. If they do not, the 20 represents the best balance of performance and value in the G Series AI range.
All G Series AI 20 hearing aids are fitted and fine-tuned in person by an HCPC-registered audiologist, either at one of our 93 clinics or during a free home visit. Every price includes the hearing test, fitting, and aftercare for life.
The G Series AI 20 runs Friendly AI directionality at a level that handles the full range of everyday listening environments smoothly and consistently. It identifies whether you are in a quiet room, outdoors, in a moving vehicle, or in a busy social setting, and adjusts the aids accordingly without any input from you.
The automatic transitions between environments feel natural at this tier. You do not notice the technology switching, which is precisely how it should work. The processing is not at the absolute ceiling of what the G Series AI platform can do, but in practice, the gap between the 20 and the 24 is only noticeable at the most demanding end of the noise spectrum.
The G Series AI 20 delivers meaningful speech-in-noise improvement across the environments most people encounter in daily life: moderately busy restaurants, social gatherings, meetings, and outdoor settings. The AI-assisted processing separates speech from background sound consistently, and most people upgrading from NHS aids or older private aids will notice the difference clearly.
For people who frequently find themselves in the most extreme noise environments, the 24 level provides stronger processing. For everyone else, the 20 covers it well.
Starkey G Series AI 20 P BTE 13: Traditional 13 battery, telecoil, app control, hearing in small groups, hearing in noise, and Bluetooth. Available in colours silver, beige, graphite grey, and chestnut and technology levels 24, 20, 16, 12, and 10.
Starkey G Series AI 20 UP BTE 13: Traditional 13 battery, telecoil, app control, hearing in small groups, hearing in noise, and Bluetooth. Available in colours silver, beige, graphite grey, and chestnut and technology levels 24, 20, 16, 12, and 10.
Starkey G Series AI 20 RIC R: Rechargeable, waterproof (up to 1 metre), app control, hearing in small groups, hearing in noise, and Bluetooth. Available in colours silver, beige, graphite grey, and chestnut and technology levels 12 and 10.
Starkey G Series AI 20 RIC 312: Traditional 312 battery, app control, hearing in small groups, hearing in noise, and Bluetooth. Available in colours silver, beige, graphite grey, and chestnut and technology levels 12 and 10.
The RIC model at the 20 level carries the same Bluetooth specification as the 24. It streams from iOS and compatible Android devices via the My Starkey app, allowing you to take calls, stream music or podcasts, and adjust volume directly from your phone. For anyone coming from NHS hearing aids with no connectivity at all, this changes daily life in ways that are genuinely useful rather than merely impressive.
The BTE model includes telecoil technology. If you attend venues with hearing loop systems, whether that is a local theatre, a place of worship, or a GP surgery waiting room, the telecoil connects the aids directly to the loop and removes much of the background noise that makes those settings difficult.
Both styles are compatible with the full StarLink wireless accessory range: TV Streamer, Table Microphone, Remote Microphone Plus, Mini Remote Microphone, and Remote Control 2.0.
Choose the RIC if you have mild to moderate hearing loss, value discretion, and want Bluetooth streaming with overnight recharging. It is the right choice for most people at this tier.
Choose the BTE if your hearing loss is more significant, you regularly use hearing loops, or you prefer the handling security of a slightly larger aid. The BTE at the 20 level gives you the same strong AI processing with the added telecoil capability. Your audiologist will confirm the appropriate style after your hearing test.
"The 20 handles the environments wearers actually live in, it connects to their phones properly, and it does not ask them to pay for processing power they will never use. For most of the people, this is the tier that makes the biggest difference to everyday life."
Paul Harrison, Audiology Expert and Founder, Hearing Aid UK
People who lead active, varied daily lives and want hearing aids that perform reliably across a wide range of situations. It suits people who are stepping up from NHS aids and want a significant, noticeable improvement in sound quality and connectivity. It is also well-suited to people who have been quoted higher prices elsewhere and want to understand what they are actually getting for the investment.
The G Series AI 20 is less suited to people who spend most of their time in quiet or very predictable environments. For those people, the 16 level is worth considering and represents better value.
We're completely independent, which means there are no manufacturer agreements, no brand quotas, and no incentives influencing what our audiologists suggest. If the G Series 20 is right for you, they will say so. If something else would serve you better, they will say that instead. That is what independent advice actually means in practice.
Our audiologists are fully qualified and experienced with all the latest technology. Getting hearing aids can feel like a big step, and our audiologists understand that. They will explain what they are recommending and why, answer your questions honestly, and make sure you walk away feeling like you actually understand what happens next.
The G Series AI 20 is the right choice for most people looking at the G Series AI range. It covers the environments that daily life actually presents, connects to your phone reliably, and delivers AI-assisted hearing improvement that most people upgrading from NHS aids or older technology will notice clearly from the first fitting.
The next step is a free hearing test with one of our HCPC-registered audiologists, either at a local clinic or during a free home visit. They will confirm whether the G Series AI 20 suits your hearing profile and recommend the right style for your lifestyle. No obligation, and no pressure to decide on the day.
Not sure what to expect? When you get in touch, you will speak with someone who can answer your questions and arrange a free hearing test if you decide you would like one. The test is free, the advice is impartial, and there is no obligation to buy anything.
Call 0800 567 7621 or book your free hearing test in a local clinic or at your own home online here. Please note that there will be an additional surcharge of £125 if we are pairing a single hearing aid with an existing aid bought from another company, where we are taking over the aftercare responsibilities and looking after both hearing aids.
What is the Starkey G Series AI 20?
The Starkey G Series AI 20 is the advanced mid-range tier in the G Series AI range, offering strong AI directionality and speech-in-noise performance across a wide range of everyday listening environments. It is available in RIC (receiver-in-canal) and BTE (behind-the-ear) styles.
How does the G Series AI 20 differ from other tiers in the range?
The G Series AI 20 runs Starkey's Friendly AI directionality at a level that handles the full range of everyday listening environments consistently and well. It sits one step below the 24 in noise-processing capacity, but for most people's daily lives, that difference is only noticeable in the most demanding noise conditions.
Is the G Series AI 20 the right choice if I regularly struggle in noise?
For most people whose hearing challenges include moderately noisy restaurants, social gatherings, and everyday busy environments, the G Series AI 20 performs very well. If very demanding, complex noise environments are a consistent daily feature of your life, it is worth discussing the 24 tier with your audiologist to understand whether the additional processing capacity would make a meaningful difference for you specifically.
Does the G Series AI 20 work with Android and iPhone?
Yes. The RIC model supports Bluetooth streaming from both iOS and compatible Android smartphones via the My Starkey app. The BTE model includes telecoil technology for connecting to hearing loop systems in theatres, churches, and other public venues, and is compatible with the full StarLink wireless accessory range.
How is the Starkey G Series AI 20 fitted?
All G Series AI 20 hearing aids available through Hearing Aid UK are fitted in person by an HCPC-registered audiologist, either at one of our 93+ clinics or during a free home visit. The in-person fitting allows the aids to be precisely calibrated to your specific hearing profile. There is no obligation at the hearing test and no pressure to decide on the day.

Not only are the prices great, but the service is fantastic! Many thanks to your team.In general, any audiologist will always recommend to you the hearing aid model that best suits your needs. Here is a useful checklist to make sure that is the case.
If you have significant hearing loss in both ears, you should be wearing two hearing aids. Here are the audiological reasons why:
Localisation: The brain decodes information from both ears and compares and contrasts them. By analysing the minuscule time delays as well as the difference in the loudness of each sound reaching the ears, the person is able to accurately locate a sound source.
Simply put, if you have better hearing on one side than the other, you can't accurately tell what direction sounds are coming from.
Less amplification is required: A phenomenon known as “binaural summation” means that the hearing aids can be set at a lower and more natural volume setting than if you wore only one hearing aid.
Head shadow effect: High frequencies, the part of your hearing that gives clarity and meaning to speech sounds, cannot bend around your head. Only low frequencies can. Therefore, if someone is talking on your unaided side, you are likely to hear that they are speaking, but be unable to tell what they have said.
Noise reduction: The brain has its own built-in noise reduction, which is only really effective when it is receiving information from both ears. If only one ear is aided, even with the best hearing aid in the world, it will be difficult for you to hear in background noise as your brain is trying to retain all of the sounds (including background noise) rather than filtering them out.
Sound quality: We are designed to hear in stereo. Only hearing from one side sounds a lot less natural to us.

For most people, the main benefit of a rechargeable hearing aid is simple convenience. We are used to plugging in our phones and other devices overnight for them to charge up. Here are some other pros and cons:
For anybody with poor dexterity or issues with their fingers, having a rechargeable aid makes a huge difference, as normal hearing aid batteries are quite small and some people find them fiddly to change.
One downside is that if you forget to charge your hearing aid, then it is a problem that can't be instantly fixed. For most, a 30-minute charge will get you at least two or three hours of hearing, but if you are the type of person who is likely to forget to plug them in regularly, then you're probably better off with standard batteries.
Rechargeable aids are also a little bit bigger and are only available in Behind-the-Ear models.
Finally, just like with a mobile phone, the amount of charge you get on day one is not going to be the same as you get a few years down the line. Be sure to ask what the policy is with the manufacturer's warranty when it comes to replacing the battery.
For most people, the answer is yes. But it's never that simple.
The majority of hearing problems affect the high frequencies a lot more than the low ones. Therefore, open fitting hearing aids sound a lot more natural and ones that block your ears up can make your own voice sound like you are talking with your head in a bucket. Therefore, in-ear aids tend to be less natural.
However, the true answer is we can't tell until we have had a look in your ears to assess the size of your ear canal, and until we have tested your hearing to see which frequencies are being affected.
People with wider ear canals tend to have more flexibility, also there are open fitting modular CIC hearing aids now that do not block your ears.
There is also the age-old rule to consider, that a hearing aid will not help you if it's sat in the drawer gathering dust. If the only hearing aid you would be happy wearing is one that people can't see, then that's what you should get.
Most people can adapt to any type of hearing aid, as long as they know what to expect. Have an honest conversation with your audiologist as to what your needs are.
Generally speaking, six or more. Unless it's none at all. The number of channels a hearing aid has is often a simplistic way an audiologist will use to explain why one hearing aid is better than another, but channels are complex, and it is really not that straightforward. Here are some reasons why:
Hearing aids amplify sounds of different frequencies by different amounts. Most people have lost more high frequencies than low, and therefore need more amplification in the high frequencies. The range of sounds you hear is split into frequency bands or channels, and the hearing aids are set to provide the right amount of hearing at each frequency level.
Less than six channels, and this cannot be done with much accuracy, so six is the magic number. However, a six-channel aid is typically very basic with few other features and is suitable only for hearing a single speaker in a quiet room. The number of channels is not what you should be looking at; it's more the rest of the technology that comes with them.
As a final note, different manufacturers have different approaches. One method is not necessarily better than any other. For example, some manufacturers have as many as 64 channels in their top aids. Most tend to have between 17 and 20. One manufacturer has no channels at all.
Manufacturer's warranties typically last between 2-5 years, depending on the brand and model, and cover defects in materials and workmanship. This includes repairs for component failures, electronic malfunctions, and manufacturing defects, but excludes damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear. Most manufacturers also include loss and damage insurance for the first year.
We handle all warranty claims on your behalf, liaising with manufacturers and ensuring you get replacement devices quickly when needed. This comprehensive warranty coverage, combined with our lifetime aftercare, gives you complete peace of mind. Find out more about our warranty cover here
Our hearing tests are completely free, whether at our clinics or in your home. Unlike other providers who charge £30-£100 for home visits, we believe hearing healthcare should be accessible without financial barriers. Our comprehensive assessments include examination by an HCPC-registered audiologist, audiogram results, and personalised recommendations.
All testing, future adjustments, and ongoing support are included at no extra cost. While NHS tests are also free, typical 6-week waiting periods often lead people to seek immediate private testing. We provide prompt, professional assessments that fit your schedule and budget.
Yes, we offer completely free home visits throughout the UK, and this service is included in our prices with no additional charges. Home visits are particularly valuable for people with mobility issues, busy schedules, or those who simply prefer the comfort and convenience of their own environment.
Our audiologists can conduct full hearing tests, fit hearing aids, and provide ongoing support in your home. This service sets us apart from many providers who either don't offer home visits or charge extra for them.
We can offer prices up to 40% lower than high street retailers because of our business model. As a network of 200+ independent audiologists, we don't have the massive overheads of large retail chains - no expensive high street premises, no sales targets pushing audiologists to sell the most expensive options, and no costly marketing campaigns.
However, we maintain the same buying power as the big chains because we purchase on behalf of our entire nationwide network. This means you get access to the same premium hearing aids with professional service, but at genuinely competitive prices.
We offer a comprehensive 60-day money-back guarantee, which gives you twice the industry standard time to properly assess whether your hearing aids are right for you. This extended period recognises that adjusting to hearing aids takes time, and your brain needs several weeks to adapt to the amplified sounds.
Unlike many providers who offer just 30 days, we believe 60 days gives you the confidence to test your hearing aids in all the situations that matter to you - from quiet conversations at home to busy restaurants and outdoor activities.
