Oticon More Hearing Aids - An introduction to the family

Launching on January 13th, 2021 - Oticon More hearing aids are an innovative digital hearing aid that has been created to support how your brain works naturally.  Advancing on their already successful BrainHearing technology philosophy and combining the Deep Neural Network and the new Polaris platform.

Not only can Oticon More hearing aids connect to your smartphone via seamless Bluetooth technology and recharge while you sleep - but you also get the full soundscape with Oticon More hearing aids.

So, what does this mean for your hearing?  Oticon More hearing aids are said to offer more of the meaningful sounds around you, more balance and clarity of all the little details and more captures of the special moments that sounds bring to life.

Oticon More Overview

Comparing the Oticon More Hearing Aids with Opn S

How do Oticon More hearing aids compare to Opn S hearing aids?

Oticon More hearing aids vs Opn S

What is interesting, is how the Oticon More hearing aids compare to the Opn S.  Oticon More hearing aids are the successor of the popular Opn S range and in a way, More picks up where OpnS left off.  By this, I mean advancing their BrainHearing technology by combining a Deep Neural Network (DNN), which is powered by the new Polaris sound processing platform.

What does this mean for your hearing loss?  The Deep Neural Network is designed to make it easier for you to follow, partake and engage in conversations.  For example, an increase in speech understanding and reducing listening effort - in fact, Oticon has stated that there is 15% more of an increase in speech understanding compared to Opn S.

Comparing the predecessor audiology platform Velox S with the new Polaris

The highlights and improvements of the new Polaris platform you can now enjoy:

Oticon has a well-established record for great hearing aids from the launch of Opn.  Oticon has continued to create and deliver a complete soundscape to the brain in the most beneficial way possible.  As if Oticon couldn't better the popular Opn S hearing aid range, it just did.

Oticon More Features

What are the main features of Oticon More hearing aids?

Oticon More hearing aid's USPs

Oticon More hearing aids help with environmental awareness

It is believed to support your awareness of your surrounding sounds.  How could this help you?  You can choose what to focus on.  Well, let's say you were in the kitchen streaming audio on your tablet and your partner was in the living room watching something on TV and the connecting door is open.

You should be able to hear the TV in the living room, but it shouldn't distract you from what you're watching on your tablet.  However, if you individually choose to focus on the TV in the living room you can understand what is being said on TV.

It's clever and this hearing aid seems to build upon such directional strategy we saw way back with Opn - instead of the beamforming strategy of other hearing aids.  Basically, the Oticon More hearing aids access a bigger scope of surrounding sounds, but keep speech clear and you can definitely tell the difference.  Nuanced sound without being overwhelming.  Below are some other clever technology 'newbies' found in More.

MoreSound Intelligence - Advanced sound scene processing with Oticon More hearing aids

This captures, optimises and enhances sounds to provide wearers with access to complete sound - offering individual sounds more clarity with other singular sounds.

MoreSounds Amplifier - Balanced amplification with Oticon More hearing aids

This balances amplification quickly and precisely so that the all-important details and dynamics are audible and accessible to those with hearing loss.

Oticon More hearing aids include the new MyMusic program

This is an advanced music program for music lovers or even if you aren't, you're sure to appreciate the MyMusic sound.  Offering a rich, reliable and crisp listening experience by capturing the right dynamics of the music you are listening to - however complex.

What does this mean for you?  Using this feature, you will benefit from crystal clear sound whether it is live music or you are streaming.  You can enjoy music how it was supposed to be heard.

Oticon More MyMusic

Oticon More Hearing Aids

Oticon More Hearing Aids - Why is accessing more from your soundscape important?

Getting and receiving more from your hearing aids is important because sound isn't enough for the brain.  Hearing aids of the past were created to focus just on the speech from in front of you,  ultimately stopping your brain from receiving the sound information it needs.

Your brain wants and needs access to more because sound environments change all the time and involve so much more than just speech.  To successfully work organically, your brain needs the full scope of sound.

Gain more clarity with Oticon More hearing aids

With Oticon More hearing aids you can experience the full sound scene in all its clarity, detail and richness.  Using groundbreaking technology, Oticon More has evolved to recognise and understand all types of sound in the best detail.  Therefore, Oticon More digital hearing aids know how each sound should be heard - as naturally as possible.

Oticon More Brain Hearing

Oticon More Hearing Aids Technology

But, how do Oticon More hearing aids give you a greater soundscape?

Oticon More hearing aids include clever technology

Oticon recorded hearing situations around the world using a 360-degree spherical microphone to collect sounds from real-life situations - 12 million to be exact! This makes way for those with hearing loss to access a clear, complete and balanced sound scene.

Why is this so impressive?

Before now, historically sound processing systems have used theoretical models and human guesstimations of how to beneficially enhance speech and decrease background noise.

Oticon More hearing aids introduce a new technology - Deep Neural Network (DNN), which is designed to mirror the way the brain functions and develops their BrainHearing technology even further.  Making this technology more than your average artificial intelligence hearing aid software.

Breakdown of the Deep Neural Network Process within Oticon More hearing aids:

  1. Oticon recorded sounds from real life.
  2. The recorded sounds trained the Deep Neural Network to recognise them.
  3. The Deep Neural Network (part of the MoreSound Intelligence) offers accurate analysis and balancing of your full soundscape.
  4. Quick and high-resolution sound amplification adapts according to your sound scene, using MoreSound Amplifier.

So, what does this all mean for hearing aid wearers?

With Oticon More hearing aids, people with hearing loss can gain from all relevant sounds that are successfully processed, balanced and can gain from a full sound scene. This means that your brain receives an optimised input from all variations of meaningful sounds.

Oticon More rechargeable hearing aids and hearing aid charger

With the Oticon More hearing aid desktop charger, Oticon states that you can get a full day of hearing and streaming in just 3 hours charge.  However, please be aware that they are generalising here - it all depends on the level of your hearing loss, use pattern, active features, sound environment, age of the battery and use of streaming.

Oticon More Hearing Aids Phone Compatibility

Oticon More hearing aid compatibility is even better

What about Oticon More hearing aid's Bluetooth connectivity?

When it comes to connectivity, More ticks all the boxes.  You can connect to the full range of Oticon accessories (with the exception of the CROS) and performs really well with most mobile phones.  Oticon has also stated that the More will work with the new Bluetooth protocol - LE Audio, which will effectively be the new generation of reliable audio streaming.

With Oticon More hearing aids, you can gain from connecting to both Android and Apple mobile phones and other Bluetooth devices. So you can stream music, talk on the phone and control your hearing aids - using the Oticon ON app.

Pairing Oticon More hearing aids to iPhone is easy, there is a quick step-by-step video at the bottom to help you - however, your audiologist will support you with this at your fitting appointment.

Now for Android

Historically Oticon has made really good MFI hearing aids and now Oticon More is for both Made for iPhone and introduces one-way streaming to Android devices too (Android 10 and Bluetooth 5.0).  Please remember that Oticon More hearing aid Android devices need to support Audio Streaming from Hearing Aids (ASHA) to allow direct streaming to Oticon More.

The Android compatibility list is not that long currently, but it will no doubt grow in time*  If you are trying to find out how to connect Oticon More hearing aids to Android, there is a handy short video at the bottom of the page to guide you.

Oticon Own hearing aids

Oticon Own Hearing Aids

ITE hearing aid styles with More technology

Smart In Ear hearing aids

Back in 2021, Oticon launched the More hearing aid range, which boasted BTE models with a new operating system. But, this release did not appeal to ITE hearing aid wearers and this new technology wasn't accessible in this type of style. That is until now.

As consumers are drawn more towards the discreet hearing aid models, Oticon has made miniturisation one of their focus points since Oticon Opn ITE options.  The result?  Smaller, more discreet ITE hearing aids that meet the needs of the patients.

This is especially true for the Oticon Own 1 IIC hearing aids, which are said to be invisible in 9 out of 10 ears, which is supported by Oticon's own White Papers.  This is made possible by developing smaller components, better software and process methods.

 Oticon Own compatibility

Oticon Own hearing aids Bluetooth connectivity

What is different with Oticon Own hearing aids when compared to the More offerings?  There are a few differences.  All the Oticon Own hearing aids provide exactly the same features as the Oticon More, but in an ITE model that doesn't connect with the CROS system (unlike the BTE More options).  But, what else is different?

The main thing to consider when choosing between the BTE More and ITE Own hearing aids is if you want Bluetooth.  The Oticon Own hearing aids only offer Bluetooth connectivity in the ITC and both ITE models, as the IIC and CIC styles are none-wireless.  In these styles, the Oticon Own hearing aids provide direct streaming to both iPhone and Android devices.  You can also access hands-free calls from iPhones and iPads - using your hearing aids as personal headphones.

None of the Oticon Own hearing aids are rechargeable, unlike the More, and because there are only two styles that have Bluetooth connectivity, you'll have to choose between features and size. It is also worth mentioning that these two Bluetooth options can have an added telecoil feature, but not both. So again you'll have to choose between connectivity and this feature.

Oticon More Hearing Aids Reviews

Are Oticon More hearing aids good? Our audiologist's impressions

Oticon More hearing aids reviews - In summary

Are Oticon More hearing aids any good?  We asked our audiologists for patient feedback and reviews of Oticon More hearing aids and here is what we received:

  • Audiologists have found them to be very easy for patients to accept.
  • Patients continue to like the Oticon range of aids due to the natural sound and improvement in a speech-in-noise environment - the More has only advanced on this.
  • The enhanced app is an improvement compared to previous Oticon apps as there is more functionality.
  • They are very reliable and have not had any reported issues.

Oticon More Review - In-depth

The look and fit of Oticon More

Overall customers have liked the look of the rechargeable miniRITE-R.  They have commented that aesthetically they are rather pleasing to the eye and have an altogether modern look.  The smooth shape allows for them to sit discreetly on the ear and should sit comfortably and stay in place without any troubles.

The Oticon More On app

A lot of customers in the past have not enjoyed the experience of the old basic Oticon ON app, but they like the new one.  This upgraded version offers much more such as remote control, a Hearing Fitness feature and the popular Internet of Things for connecting to at-home devices and so on.

The Oticon More's listening experience

Feedback has been that these hearing aids accommodate rather well in all listening environments and a broader soundscape could be generally heard.  Providing a well-nuanced background that was never too prominent, which made the sound clear and crisp.

Our first thoughts about Oticon Own hearing aids

Oticon Own is a great choice if you are ok with changing batteries and don't have huge issues with dexterity and want advanced sound processing technology.  Our patients have historically loved the "open" sound since the launch of Opn and now they can experience this in smaller models on a more improved level.

If you are considering the Oticon Own, make sure you chat to your audiologist about what features you will need and get the most out with your hearing loss in mind.  For example, you will need to sacrifice Bluetooth connectivity and push button if you want the invisible and smaller hearing aid options in this range.
