How much do hearing aids cost?

I have recently learned that I have a hearing impairment and the doctor says that there is a chance my hearing could improve with a surgical procedure. However, this could take a while so in the meantime I have been examining my options and the doctor said that hearing aids can help.

I don’t want to spend a fortune buying expensive devices when I know I won’t need them for that long.

So my question is; how much do they cost?

There is no set price on hearing aids but on average, it should cost between £500-£1500 to buy a hearing aid and have it properly fitted by a registered audiologist. The price should also include aftercare service.

If the doctor has said a surgical procedure can improve your hearing, it is very likely that you have a conductive hearing loss. Damaged ear drums can be rectified with a tympanoplasty procedure, and otosclerosis can be combated with a stapedectomy.

These cases involve a hearing loss that is not inner ear- related and complex sound processing is rarely required. Budget around £500-£700 because you probably won’t need top technology and you may only need one hearing aid; presuming the condition is just on one side.
