Hearing Aid UK's Coronavirus Statement

24/03/2020 Update:  On Monday 23rd March the government announced greater measures to tackle the spread of COVID-19, therefore we have closed our centres and clinics temporarily until April 13th. This date will be reviewed again nearer the time in accordance with government guidelines.

All of our audiologists are still offering telephone support and various remote servicing options and if you wish to speak to us here, our phone lines are still open as usual on 0800 5677621

Statement from Paul Harrison - Founder of Hearing Aid UK

Professional, Convenient & Safe Home Visits

Our audiologists are dedicated to offering free hearing care home visits - at a suitable time & in the comfort of your own home

Here, at Hearing Aid UK, we pride ourselves in having always provided excellent and professional hearing care, hearing aid maintenance and hearing test home visiting services.  Our home visit service is both unique, bespoke and one that is still surprisingly not readily available.

Even in today’s changeable modern lifestyle - the high street hearing care retailers are continuing to see their patients in practice, rather than in the comfort of their own home.  This concept continues to baffle us because the people that have hearing loss are often the most vulnerable.  From a patient’s perspective, you don’t lose any level of service with a home visit.  The at-home option still embodies the same level of service you would receive and expect in-house and this is why we promote this concept.

Considering the Coronavirus (COVID-19) & maintaining good hearing health

It is now even more apparent that the need for home visits is going to be an important service to provide in our global current situation and the virus threat we now face.  In these uncertain times, we need to take a proactive approach so we can maintain balance within our company, our practices, our customers, our families and our community – by catering for everyone’s individual requirements professionally and safely.

This means that those with hearing loss who have decided to isolate themselves can still benefit from our hearing healthcare services.  We believe that isolation shouldn’t restrict the opportunity to hear like you should, in fact, it is even more important – which is why we are focusing on continuing to bring our hearing healthcare services directly to you.

In this article we will be discussing:

  1. Our COVID-19 health & safety precautions
  2. Answering common misconceptions about at-home hearing tests
  3. What audiologists can do at a home visit
  4. The benefits of home visits
  5. Your next steps

What COVID-19 health & safety precautions have you got in place?

We want to reassure our customers that we are working very closely with the government, authorities and are constantly being updated with new guidelines and procedures specific to our industry. Here are the consistent precautionary measures we are taking:

  1. Maintaining a safe distance, where possible in all our appointments.
  2. Wearing protective gloves and masks.
  3. Deep cleaning equipment regularly.
  4. Limiting the time spent with patients.
  5. Being consistent with excellent hygiene and infection control, using aseptic techniques.
  6. Ensuring that all audiologists are tested for the virus regularly.
  7. Strictly following up to date government and health guidelines.
  8. We are following the industries Domiciliary Guidance steps to ensure the safety of both our audiologists and patients.  With this in mind, we ask all our patients relevant questions before we book any home visit appointments - to reduce the risk of transmission.

Is a home hearing test as accurate as one in practice?

This question is a good question and by far the most common misconception.  Some people believe that only a sound-proof booth will give you an accurate audiogram.  This is not the case.  In reality, practices use these booths because their audiology clinics are within a noisy environment, so they require them because of this sole reason.

What can an audiologist do at a home visit?

In short, anything that can be done in the practice can be done in your home by one of our audiologists.  Here is a brief breakdown of some of the services we can provide for you:

  1. Hearing tests – Using specialised equipment and noise-cancelling headphones.  We can evaluate your hearing to the same standard as in practice.
  2. Hearing aid fittings – We can fit your hearing aids on the same day as your test, using mobile testing and equipment.
  3. Hearing aid reprogramming and maintenance - Keeping your hearing aid programmes in the right setting as your hearing changes.  We can provide routine checks to keep your hearing aids working at their full potential.

What are the benefits of hearing care home visits?

There are many good reasons to opt for a home visit for your hearing healthcare.  Here are a few:

  1. A realistic environment to tune your hearing aids in.
  2. You get instant help with your hearing aid technology and connections.
  3. Build a professional and effective relationship with your local audiologist.
  4. More convenient and safe during the current COVID-19 virus situation, by minimalising your social interaction - and the option we now highly recommend.
  5. You pay the same price as you would in the clinic.
