American Tax Firm Resolves Deaf Person’s Complaint

A national tax firm in Washington, America has agreed to improve its services and access for the hearing impaired after a deaf person filed a complaint under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

H & R Block, a tax preparation company, has resolved the complaint in a nationwide settlement to provide auxiliary hearing aids and services such as sign language interpreters and to train its employees.

It has said it will enforce policies for communicating with deaf and hard of hearing customers.

As a result of the complaint, it has been forced to pay a $20,000 civil fine and pay the person who filed the lawsuit, $5,000 in damages.

The tax firm has over 11,000 franchised offices throughout the US.
