An introduction into the Unitron Discover range
Unitron launched the Discover Next hearing aid range in July 2020, which superseded the original Unitron Discover (discontinued in May 2021). The idea behind Discover Next hearing aids is that it focuses not just on the words in conversations - but helps those with hearing loss to understand who is talking, where the voices are coming from, what tone they are using and also their emotions.
Discover Next assists you in hearing better in challenging environments - even the softest-spoken person will be focused in a noisy atmosphere. This launch also comes with a new rechargeable shape for 2020 - the Moxi Move R - Unitron's smallest RIC.
The Original Unitron Discover Hearing Aids
The original Unitron Discover range was launched in April 2019 and brought a variety of new features and additions to the existing hardware from the previous Tempus platform.
Unitron shares much of its technology with manufacturer Phonak as both companies are owned by Sonova. However, that is hardware only, the implementation of the technology is different between the two companies.
Just like the popular Phonak Marvel range that came out in 2018, the Unitron Discover range used the "Sword 3.0" microchip which enables these hearing aids to be able to stream not only from iPhones but also from Android and other Bluetooth devices. Music, audiobooks and phone calls can all be streamed directly to the hearing aids with no other accessory needed to assist.
Unitron Discover Next Hearing Aid's Flex Upgrade
This is unique to Unitron. All of their hearing aids in a particular range, from the top model down to the most basic are actually just the same from a hardware point of view, the difference is only in the software.
This means two things for the end-user, firstly whilst the hearing aids are on trial, you can essentially try out the more and less expensive versions of the hearing aid to see what level of technology you actually need. This means that you don't end up spending more than you need to as you'll only end up buying the technology you actually use.
In addition to this, if your needs change over time then you can upgrade to a more expensive version without buying new aids from scratch, you simply pay the price difference
Common Examples of Using a Unitron Discover Next Flex Upgrade
A common situation where this is used is if someone buys some hearing aids thinking that they will mainly use them at home or watching TV so they buy the basic version (for example the Discover 3) back then they found that with the new aids they are more confident in social situations.
At a later date, they now wish that they had bought the version which had better background noise reduction so that they could properly appreciate their increased sociability.
They would simply contact the audiologist and purchase the upgrade to the better version, for example in this case possibly the Discover 7.

Main Features
Soundcore
The operating system in the Unitron Discover range is the SoundNav 3.0. Despite being only an iterative update over the previous range (unsurprisingly called SoundNav 2.0), early reviews from our first customers wearing them suggest a noticeable improvement. They use a feature called SoundCore which is made up of four aspects that combine together to help in the tougher environments.
The OS, SoundNav 3.0 working with Sound Conductor, Speechpro and Spatial Awareness combines information from up to seven environmental settings to personalise your sound map. Yes, this is very much marketing department speak again, but what it is actually doing is reading whatever environment you are in and combining the information it's getting from the different systems in the hearing aid to choose the most appropriate program for you so that you don't have to press buttons to do that yourself.
Interestingly this includes streaming with "MediaNav" being able to tell whether you are streaming music or speech and optimising the sound quality for that source of sound.
Unitron Discover Next Rechargeable Hearing Aids
Previously in their Tempus range, Unitron had the Z-Power Silver-Zinc rechargeable system. This wasn't so popular as the charging units sometimes had issues. They have now changed to a more reliable Lithium-ion rechargeable battery for the "Discover Moxi Jump R" model. It's a simple to use system, the hearing aid turns on when you remove it from the charger, and an average user will get around 16 hours of wear time.

Discover 9 / 7 / 5 / 3 Moxi Jump R
Unitron's first lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aid, the Moxi Jump R is a receiver in canal aid that is straightforward to charge. There is no battery door and the aid clips straight into the charger.
Discover 9 / 7 / 5 / 3 Moxi Fit
Slimmer than the rechargeable model, the Moxi Fit uses a standard 312 battery.
Be aware (or beware) of the "Vista"
You might have been quoted for a "Vista" hearing aid and been told that these are special hearing aids are available for only a select number of audiologists. This is true, Unitron, an otherwise decent manufacturer of hearing aids has engaged in what is known as a "white labeling" of their hearing aids.
This is to enable businesses who wish to charge significantly more for a hearing aid to do so without their customers being able to do a price comparison online.
We obviously disagree with this practice, hence this notification.

The Unitron Discover range have no in-ear options, only the two receiver in canal models already mentioned.
However, the technology in the Discover hearing aids is based on the same as is in the Unitron Tempus range, so if you are looking for a custom made in-ear model then it's the Tempus you should be looking at.
